Crumb Eater Explained
Matthew 15:27
"It is not right to take the children's bread and throw it to the dogs."
She said, "Yes Lord, yet even the dogs eat the crumbs that fall from their masters' table."
I have always related to this verse. In the story Jesus was approached by a woman who was not Jewish, like He was. She was begging for Him to heal her daughter but He would not answer her. His disciples were irritated by her and asked him to send her away. Jesus told them that He came for the Jews, and not her.
I can't say I completely understand the deep theological meaning of this passage, I can only speak to what it says to me personally.
The woman was a Canaanite and Jews had great contempt for them.
Even though I have gone to church throughout my life and been a believer since I was a child, I have felt contempt from the church.
Now, don't get me wrong, I didn't feel contempt all the time, I have come across some of the best people in the church, but when something is supposed to be loving, kind and forgiving, even a little bit of contempt is a whole lot of contempt, is it not?
And then when I went on to become this rebellious teenager, I for sure knew I wasn't really part of this family that centered itself around Jesus.
I am so thankful that I was so captured by Him that I stuck with him even if I was a dog eating crumbs under His table.
So when I read this scripture as an adult....
It was me.
It was me under the table eating crumbs.
I am a crumb eater.
